AGENT CARTER (2015): Hayley Atwell Says Agent Carter Will Be Darker

Agent Carter

Hayley Atwell Talks About What’s Coming on Agent Carter. Expect to see some action once Marvel’s Agent Carter premieres next week, according to Hayley Atwell. Atwell gets ready for some action this season as she reprises her role as Peggy Carter from the Captain America films.

In an interview with TVLine, Atwell gave some details on her character and what she faces as the season begins. The actress revealed that Peggy would be taking on some dark and compelling missions that will have dire consequences as the series moves forward. Don’t expect a “mission of the week” kind of show. “It’s not like, ‘Let’s find this ‘bad baby,’ now let’s find that ‘bad baby,’” Atwell said. “It goes to a much deeper, darker place.”

Atwell sees the eight-episode run as “four films,” saying that the show will put no stops in regards to storytelling. The show will also allow us to explore Peggy’s personal life as she struggles with losing the love of her life, Steve Rogers. Agent Carter will take place after Captain America: The First Avenger, as the world moves on thinking that Captain America died after World War II. Despite not seeing Steve Rogers on the show, we will see much of his strength passed on to Peggy as she fights against HYDRA, criminals, and her superiors’ judgments towards her.

“I think she found in him the love of her life, the greatest man that she’s ever known in terms of his character and his values,” Atwell told TVLine. “And in that grief we see her own personal struggles and her own kind of exhaustion, but also the determination to carry on his work.”

Agent Carter debuts with a two-hour premiere on January 6th at 8PM on ABC.
