AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.: Set to Return on ABC with Known Villain

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

ABC‘s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to add super villain after return. When Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns, for the second half of its inaugural season, expect at least one new face with a familiar name, alongside the old faces with unfamiliar names. The next appearance of latter example, Ian Quinn (David Conrad), will be alongside one Donnie Gill (Dylan Minnette). In the Marvel Comics Universe, Donnie Gill is an alter-ego of the ice-themed super villain Blizzard.

About Blizzard:

Blizzard is the name of several fictional characters appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics. Each Blizzard is a super villain in the Marvel Universe and a member of Iron Man’s rogues gallery.

Created by Stan Lee and Don Heck, the first Blizzard (Gregor Shapanka) appeared as Jack Frost in Tales of Suspense #45 (September 1963), and as Blizzard beginning in Iron Man #86 (May 1976). He was killed off in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #20 (November 1986).

The second Blizzard (created by David Michelinie and Bob Layton) first appeared in Iron Man #223 (October 1987). Donald “Donnie” Gill, born in Delaware, was a professional criminal hired by Justin Hammer (who gave him a cryogenic suit resembling the original Blizzard. Since Blizzard was vaporized by Iron Man 2020, Donnie adopted the name. Donnie Gill also appeared as a member of the Thunderbolts, a team of superheroes made up of reformed super villains.

Of course, Dylan Minnette is a teenager, so it stands to reason that his portrayal of Donnie Gill will likely be something of a departure from the source material.

Donnie Gill will make his debut in the season 1.12 episode, “Seed,” on Tuesday, January 14, 2014

I wonder if the AoS Blizzard will use a suit to get his powers or if they’ll use the Inhuman version.

If AoS 1.1 was any indication, I’d say the former. Of course, they might (read: should) tweak 1.2 for more fanservice (the SFW kind), meaning more superpowers. As there’s room for the character’s growth (literally – Dylan Minnette’s still a kid), Blizzard might be timed as a contemporary of Graviton. Still, I wouldn’t get my hopes up over any comic sized super powered throw downs. At least, not until they demonstrate a turn in that direction.
