AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.: Thor’s Lady Sif coming to ABC TV Show

Jaimie Alexander Thor: The Dark World

ABC‘s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to feature Sif from Thor. Expect Jaimie Alexander to appear on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Lady Sif, reprising her role from the films Thor, and Thor: The Dark World. This will be the series’ second cross-over event with Thor (after the eighth episode, ‘The Well,’ tied directly in with Thor: The Dark World), and the third appearance by a big screen Marvel Character (after Samuel L. Jackson‘s Director Fury, and Cobie Smulders‘s Agent Hill), but the very first major Marvel super being to appear on the show – or anywhere on live-action television, for that matter, since the Bill Bixby Hulk series. It only seems appropriate that a Shield Maiden takes the honor, methinks.

About Lady Sif:

Based on the Norse goddess Sif, she was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and first appeared in Journey Into Mystery #102 (March 1964). As an Asgardian warrior and lover of Thor, Sif often accompanies Thor into battle. She has also battled alongside Balder, who has developed an unrequited attraction to her, as she never shows affection for anyone but Thor and certain individuals who have proved worthy to wield his hammer, Mjolnir, such as the noble alien warrior Beta Ray Bill and the mortal Eric Masterson.

Sif, the sister of Heimdall, has been the constant companion of Thor and Balder since childhood. Like most Asgardians, Sif was born with golden hair. Hers, however, was turned black after Loki jealously cut it and replaced it with enchanted hair made by dwarves. At an early age she showed great prowess as a warrior and was considered the best female warrior in all of Asgard, matched only by Brunnhilde. At one point she was given to the death goddess Hela by a giant in exchange for immortality, but Thor saved her by offering himself in her place. Hela was so impressed that she let them both go.

Sif shares powers common among all Asgardians including enhanced strength, durability and longevity (through the consumption of golden apples). She is also highly skilled in hand to hand combat and proficient in use of cold weapons.

In the Guardians of the Galaxy timeline, by the 31st century Thor and Sif have a son together named Woden Thorson.

With ABC president Paul Lee‘s promise that it will be more than just another cameo appearance, Jaimie Alexander will be making her television debut, as Lady Sif, in the upcoming fifteenth episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s first season. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s mid-season will resume on February 4, 2014, on ABC.
