ALEISTER ARCANE: Jim Carrey Joins Eli Roth Comic Adaptation

Jim Carrey Eli Roth

Jim Carrey signs onto the cast of Aleister Arcane. The Golden Globe-winning Truman Show and Kick Ass 2 actor will star in the supernatural-themed comic adaptation from Eli Roth.

Carrey’s involvement with the film means that it will be the second recent project to team Roth up with an A-list actor. In addition to having Arcane on his slate, the Hostel and Green Inferno director is set to direct a remake of the cult vigilante film Death Wish with Bruce Willis in the lead role. Although on the face of it the two films couldn’t be more different, Roth’s unique directorial style of blending extreme violence, a trademark of Willis’ Die Hard series, with dark humor, something that Carrey is no stranger to, suggests that both productions are in good hands.

Steve Niles wrote and Breehn Burns illustrated the 2004 graphic novel, which you can purchase here. Screenwriter Jon Croker (The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death) will pen the screenplay adaptation for DreamWorks Pictures. Carrey, who is no stranger to comic book adaptations (Kick-Ass 2, Batman Forever, The Mask), will star in and also executive produce Aleister Arcane, with Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman producing alongside Michael Aguilar.

Currently going out of his studio comedy safety net, Carrey will next be seen in a pair of edgy indie movies, including The Bad Batch from director Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home at Night) and the thriller True Crimes opposite Charlotte Gainsbourg.
