McBride’s potential involvement with the Alien franchise comes as a surprise to many. Appearing primarily in comedic roles, McBride has starred in the HBO sports comedy Eastbound & Down and is slated to play the lead role in the network’s upcoming program Vice Principals alongside The Hateful Eight‘s Walton Goggins. No stranger to the big screen, he has also appeared in some of the most successful comedies of the past 10 years, including Pineapple Express, Tropic Thunder, and This Is The End. More recently, he has been cast as voice talent for two animated movies: The Angry Birds Movie and Sausage Party.
The Ridley Scott-directed Alien: Covenant, however, promises to be a very different project for McBride. Indeed, details about the movie’s indicate it will be completely unlike anything the Rock The Casbah actor has appeared in before:
Set as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus, Alien: Covenant connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. It begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. There, the crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
It is unknown which role McBride is being considered for, but one can be sure that his presence will be a very interesting addition to the film.
