Noomi Rapace signs onto Ridley Scott‘s Alien: Covenant. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows actress will reprise her Prometheus role as Elizabeth Shaw in the planned sequel.
Previously, it was claimed that she would not appear in Covenant, but Deadline confirmed today that Rapace would indeed return in the next installment of the Alien franchise. She joins a cast that already includes an impressive number of actors, including Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Billy Crudup, Demian Bichir, and Jussie Smolett. Also returning to the series is Michael Fassbender, playing the role of David the android once again.
While audiences can now expect to see both Rapace and Fassbender in Covenant, it is unclear whether their roles will be as big as they were in Prometheus or if they will be smaller to make way for the new cast and characters:
Set as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus, Alien: Covenant connects directly to Ridley Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. It begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. There, the crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Jack Paglen (Transcendence) and Michael Green (Green Lantern) are providing the Alien: Covenant screenplay, which Ridley Scott will once again direct. 20th Century Fox is set to distribute the film in theaters on August 4, 2017.
