Penelope Cruz To Portray Donatella Versace In American Crime Story
Although work is still underway on the show’s second installment (subtitled Katrina), plans have already been drawn up for the following season. In fact, Cruz is the third person to be cast for the series so far, with Glee‘s Darren Criss and Carlos‘ Edgar Ramirez set to star. Featuring Criss as Andrew Cunanan, the program will follow the serial killer as he stalked the world-famous fashion designer Gianni Versace (portrayed by Ramirez) before murdering him.
Originally from Spain, Cruz has since made her way to Hollywood and appeared in any number of high-profile productions, including but not limited to Vanilla Sky, Gothika, Sahara, and Nine. Most recently, she had major roles in the comedies Zoolander 2 and The Brothers Grimsby.
Comingsoon.net, the source of this story, shared this about Cruz’s career in Spain:
Cruz has proven herself to be one of the most versatile actresses by playing a variety of compelling characters, and becoming the first actress from Spain to be nominated for and win for an Academy Award. First introduced to American audiences in the Spanish films Jamon, Jamon and Belle Epoque, she starred in her first English language film Hi-Lo Country in 1998, followed the next year by The Girl of Your Dreams.
