Disney Begins Principal Photography On Artemis Fowl
Shooting is now underway on Disney’s planned adaptation of the first book in the Irish science fantasy book series Artemis Fowl.
Helmed by Shakespearean actor and Thor director Kenneth Branagh, the movie is set to film in England, Northern Ireland, and Vietnam. The shooting locations indicate there will be quite a diverse range of locales portrayed within the finished film.
Described as science fantasy, the Artemis Fowl books follow the misadventures of the titular character, who happens to be a 12-year-old criminal mastermind. Since the publication of the first book in 2001, the series has expanded to include seven sequels, the most recent of which, The Last Guardian, was released in 2012.
In addition to directing the film, Branagh is also serving as a producer alongside Judy Hofflund. Executive producers include Matthew Jenkins and Angus More Gordon.
Comingsoon.net shares the following information about the proposed film’s plot and cast:
In the underground fairy world of Haven City, Academy Award-winner Dame Judi Dench (Skyfall) plays Commander Root, the leader of the reconnaissance division of the LEPrecon, the fairy police force, and Josh Gad (Beauty and the Beast) plays Mulch Diggums, a kleptomaniac dwarf, who attempts to help rescue Holly.
Above ground, Nonso Anozie (Cinderella) plays the Fowl family bodyguard, named Butler, and Tamara Smart (The Worst Witch) plays Butler’s niece Juliet. Miranda Raison (Murder on the Orient Express) plays Artemis’ mother Angeline.
