THE ATOM: The CW Eyes Another Arrow Spinoff Starring The Atom

The CW in Talks for Another Arrow Spinoff Starring The Atom. After the good news of Arrow and The Flash being picked up for another season, The CW is already talking about having another spinoff. This spinoff though will star Brandon Routh’s Ray Palmer AKA The Atom.

TVLine reported that executive producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Marc Guggenheim said that they are currently talking about an idea that relates to Brandon Routh’s character Ray Palmer on Arrow. Palmer’s alter ego Atom in comic folklore is a superhero who can alter his body size and other objects around him. Ray Palmer became a character on Arrow during it’s current third season and revealed that he was working on a suit to help protect Starling City.

CW President Mark Pedowitz teased about a possible Atom series during the Television Critics Association saying that the network is being “judicious” about expanding its DC shows. “Could there be another hour in that universe? Possibly. As long as there’s no audience fatigue.”

Speaking at the Nerdist podcast, Marc Guggenheim revealed about the spinoff plans for The Atom. “The thing that we’ve been talking about is just how do we further expand the universe; and we love Brandon and we love having him on Arrow,” he distantly answered about giving the Superman Returns star his own show.

Brandon’s so terrific and embodies the role so well that when we talk about how to further expand things, he’s a natural person to talk about. It’s like Brandon said on the panel, originally when we met with him we just wanted to bring a great character onto the show and we wanted a great actor to play him. That’s really how it always starts. With the exception of Grant Gustin on Arrow last year, there’s never been a [decision] to bring in a character with the intention to spin them off. It’s always, ‘What services the show the best?’

For now, the talks are in its early stages with Guggenheim denying that Arrow teased for another spinoff after Ray Palmer was introduced. The same went for the costume, as it wasn’t made with the idea of a spinoff in mind.

No, the costume is just “How do we get it to work on Arrow?” Maya Mani did the design that she always does. It’s her best costume, and that’s really saying something. It’s coming together beautifully. Brandon just did his third fitting with it, and it’s the most ambitious costume we’ve ever done on the show. One of the things I like about it is we did it without consideration of a spinoff. We did it because this is a cool thing to have on Arrow.
