BALLISTIC CITY: Joseph Kosinski, Travis Beacham Bring AMC a SciFi Show

Travis Beacham Joseph Kosinski

Ballistic City is coming to AMC. Joseph Kosinski, Travis Beacham are bringing the AMC TV Network a science fiction TV show to compliment its horror TV show (The Walking Dead), its western (Hell on Wheels), and its dramas (Breaking Bad and Mad Men). Joseph Kosinski has experience in the scifi field having directed TRON: Legacy and Oblivion. Travis Beacham wrote Pacific Rim.

Joseph Kosinski will direct and executive produce Ballistic City and Travis Beacham will write and executive produce as well.

Ballistic City is a futuristic drama “described as ‘Blade Runner meets Battlestar Galactica’ and tells the story of a former cop thrust into the criminal underworld of a city housed in a generational space ship destined for an unknown world.”

Since AMC has already picked this up for at least a pilot episode if not a first season, I am guessing that Beacham turned in a quality script (s). I would hope AMC placed the freshman show directly after The Walking Dead but since Talking Dead is in that time slot, I am guessing it will air before The Walking Dead at 8pm or on some other night at 9pm. The Walking Dead would be a great lead-in for the series though.

More on Joseph Kosinski:

Joseph Kosinski…is an American television commercial and feature film director best known for his computer graphics and computer generated imagery work…His previous work has primarily been with CGI related television commercials including the “Starry Night” commercial for Halo 3 and the award-winning “Mad World” commercial for Gears of War.

Kosinski was raised in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Patricia and Joel Kosinski, a doctor. After moving to Los Angeles, California, in 2005, he began writing a graphic novel called Oblivion for Radical Comics. In August 2010, Walt Disney Pictures acquired the rights. William Monahan worked on the screenplay for a film adaptation. In March 2011, it was reported that Karl Gajdusek would rewrite the screenplay. Attempts to keep the film at a PG rating were unsuccessful leading to Disney giving up the rights, which were then acquired by Universal Pictures which agreed to a PG-13 rating. The $100-million-budgeted film is scheduled to begin filming in October 2011 with Tom Cruise in the lead role.
