Matt Reeves Compares The Batman to Caesar

After War of the Planet of the Apes, director Matt Reeves will be working on a new story of the Dark Knight called The Batman for the DC Extended Universe. So how will Reeves tackle this character after so many attempts by other directors?

During an interview with ComicBook.com, Reeves revealed that he would love to take a personal approach to the character, comparing Ben Affleck’s Batman to Andy Serkis’ Caesar in the new Planet of the Apes film. In the article, he said:

Look, I’m just starting Batman because literally, [War for the Planet of the Apes], as I just said, we finished about a week ago and now we’re publicizing it. So, we haven’t even begun on Batman. For me, what’s always important is to try and find a personal way in. In that way, I do feel like I relate to actors. It’s about understanding emotionally, the way something is. I see this parallel between Caesar and Batman, really, which is this idea of these characters who are grappling with their own struggle and trying to do the right thing in an imperfect world and, so, I do really relate it to that kind of idea.

It seems like everyone is glad to see Reeves taking over the reins from Ben Affleck on the new Batman film, especially with the first round of positive reactions that the director is getting for War of the Planet of the Apes. It will take some time before Reeves ends up giving more details on The Batman, but we are glad to know that the future of the Dark Knight is in good hands.
