BATMAN V SUPERMAN (2016): Film Designer Says Larger Threat Looms Beyond Doomsday

Doomsday Batman v Superman Trailer

Larger Threat is Coming After Doomsday in Batman v Superman. Most fans assumed that Doomsday would become the main threat in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice after seeing the trailer, but it turns out he isn’t according to production designer Patrick Tatopolous.

During an interview with French magazine Premiere, Patrick Tatopolous dropped some hints about Doomsday’s role in the film, who turns out that he isn’t the only threat coming for both the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight. He even went on to say that Doomsday is part of a plan to evolve the story, making it divert from the ‘Death of Superman’ arc that the character was based off of. “We are able to tell a story in a fresh way,” Tatopoulos clarified. “Doomsday is an evolution essentially. Fans may be aware of the death of Superman story, but this is handled in such a new way.”

The designer might also be referring to the evolution of Doomsday when Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) uses General Zod’s (Michael Shannon) body to create the all-powerful beast instead of the one that comicbook fans remember.

When the film is called Batman (Ben Affleck) v or versus Superman, it really has a lot of levels to the meaning. Superman isn’t just killed off at the end of something. We see how he evolves as part of Lex’s plan to protect the world.  Seeing the Superman (Henry Cavill) we know, be gone, and then replaced with this reproduction is really going to make fans think of how we look at these super beings. It was especially interesting to figure out, how would you create Superman from Zod…then how would that involve into Doomsday.

The big surprise is when Tatopoulos teased that there’s a “larger threat” at play, while the “timeframe of how things fall into place will surprise fans” and “Doomsday isn’t just the final act.”

So what does this mean? Are we seeing the likes of Braniac or Darkseid? All the designer would say is, “Those feeling they may know too much this early, are going to be in for a true surprise.” When asked to be more specific, Tatopolous simply replied, “That’s something to find out on March 25th.”
