Latest trailer for DOJ brings titular heroes literally face to face. The latest reminder, of some obscure superhero title on the way, doubles down on the ‘getting off on the wrong foot” angle, highlighted in previous spots. So far, Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has previewed the meeting as primarily a Bat-beef with the Big Blue Boy-scout. The new teaser, however, suggests that the beefing will not only go on beyond the meeting at the Bat-Signal, but that the feeling will be a little more mutual.
From the looks of him, it seems both the Bat (Ben Affleck), and his beef, will get past the initial confrontation in good enough shape to pursue the matter further. It will not go well; resulting in another face to face – entirely out of the Bat’s control, and without his cowl. There are other bits to the spot – Super’s Troopers, the Bat getting strung up alongside some other ‘collected’ wrong doers, the desert setting, Bats actually being able to turn his head – but let’s focus.
I would still refer to Bruce Timm’s animated World’s Finest treatment as a good reference point, as to how initial conflict could exist between the two heroes; but Snyder will apparently be taking a much deeper, meaner approach to that one aspect. There is no real sign of subtlety, here – with the Man of Steel (Henry Cavill) resorting to physically unmasking the Batman, rather than just using X-ray vision. If it turns out that Bruce figured to lead line his stuff, then bravo; but all we have, at the moment, is a really mean looking Superman working an intimidation game. Previous images, such as the one below, show an almost identical expression; suggesting ‘no more Mister Nice Guy’ will be a trend, for the Man of Steel.
Popping the S-curl: maybe a more grievous offense than previously thought.
This has been billed as a sneak peek trailer; aired during the Fall finale of Gotham (which was a logical move, on DC & Warner Brothers’ part), and since released online. The full, official trailer will debut during the December 2 airing of Jimmy Kimmel Live. We’ll try to save you some trouble looking that one up, as well. Cheers.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice also stars Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, Tj Norris, Ray Fisher, and Jeremy Irons. It is scheduled for a March 25, 2016 U.S. theatrical release.
