Catherine Chandler, detective, witnesses her mother being shot the same night she is saved from her mother’s murderers by a supposed beast. Nine years later, a case leads her to discover that Vincent Keller, an ex-soldier killed in action during military service, is actually alive. As Catherine gets to know him, she starts finding out more about her mother’s murder and about who (and what) Vincent really is. At the same time, they get to know each other and eventually fall in love with each other.

The New York Comic Con 2013 panel for Beauty and The Beast:

In attendance were stars Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan. The shows creators also accompanied them: Sherri Cooper and Jennifer Levin. The panel was moderated by Matt Mitovich from TVLine.com.

*Mitovich asked the show’s creators the reasoning behind the 3 month time-jump between seasons.

*Sherri and Jennifer commented that they didn’t want to watch Catherine search for Vincent. They wanted to explore the shift in their relationship. They wanted to focus on the two characters exploring their relationship together, starting over, and focusing on the new beasts.

*Jay Ryan and Kristin spoke on the level of acting required to bring their characters to deep emotional points. Jay explained that with so many of the shoots taking place at night, fatigued helped fuel the talent when they needed to be angry or frightened.

*Jay also commented that the season would involve “making amends”.

*It was noted in the panel footage that this is the first time audiences see Vincent hurt Catherine. The panel noted this was a big shift in their relationship.

*Kreuk commented that Catherine could only “tolerate so much” before she broke.

The New York Comic Con 2013 panel footage for Beauty & The Beast:

Audiences were able to catch the emotional strain Catherine will have to endure this season. Season 2 fast-forwards three months and has Vincent and Catherine reunited. But Vincent is not the same. He’s changed: his scar has disappeared, his memory has been wiped clean, and he returns as a supercharged beast on a mysterious mission. Catherine needs to unravel the reasons behind Vincent’s change if she has any hope of recovering their love, while also trying to solve secrets in her own life.

Friendships are tested as well as Tess and J.T. are constantly butting heads. Tess is worried bout Catherine, but because she is partnered with Gabriel she feels Catherine will not trust her. J.T. has been working closely with Catherine to try and find Vincent. There’s a small hint of a possible love-interest that could be explored in the season. Gabriel will also have to prove himself to Catherine this season. Now that his beast side as been exterminated he has replaced Joe as the head of Catherine and Tess’s precinct. He has a lot of amends to make.

Vincent is also struggling with his memory loss. Although he has been reprogrammed he alludes to a pull he has towards Catherine. No matter how much he wants to stay away from Catherine he gravitates to her.  Neither JT nor Catherine realizes that Vincent is under the command of Catherine’s biological father. Catherine holds on to the faint hope that she is special to Vincent but his powers are stronger, and others are worried that he might harm her.
