BLACK PANTHER (2018): Lupita Nyong’o In Talks To Join Cast

Lupita Nyongo

Lupita Nyong’o in negotiations to appear in Black Panther. The Academy Award-winning 12 Years A Slave and Star Wars: The Force Awakens star is being offered a role in the Marvel superhero film.

Following her widely-lauded performance in 12 Years, Nyong’o has appeared in surprisingly few movies. Instead, the actress seems to have endeavored on a slow but steady push to preserve her momentum, accepting motion capture and voice roles in the aforementioned Force Awakens as well as The Jungle Book, both of which were massive critical and financial successes. Chances are, however, that Nyong’o will actually appear on-screen if she does end up joining Black Panther.

If the talks go through, Nyong’o will act opposite Chadwick Boseman, who is set to play the T’Challa/Black Panther. She is reportedly being offered the role of T’Challa’s love interest, although the identity of the character has not been disclosed.

There’s no word in what her character will be in the film though the outlet notes she will be playing T’Challa’s love interest in the film, meaning she could be playing a member of the Dora Milaje. The Dora Milaje are the Black Panther’s elite all-female bodyguards and group of potential queens, one of whom briefly appears in Captain America: Civil War.

Creed director Ryan Coogler will direct the film while also penning the script. Production on the movie is set to commence at the beginning of 2017 with a February 16, 2018 release date already set.
