The official title for the sequel to Ridley Scott‘s seminal 1982 film Blade Runner has been revealed. The film will be entitled Blade Runner 2049. The title is derived from the time period of the original film. The events of Blade Runner took place during the year 2019. Since Harrison Ford has aged thirty years since he made the original film, the year of the film is being advanced thirty years as while.

Unlike the first film, Ridley Scott will not be directing Blade Runner 2049. Denis Villeneuve will be helming the sequel.  Jóhann Jóhannsson is creating the score for the film. Villeneuve and Jóhannsson both worked together on Sicario. Villeneuve directed Sicario while Jóhannsson created the musical score for the film.
