Blunt Force Trauma Movie Trailer and Poster. Ken Sanzel‘s Blunt Force Trauma (2015) movie trailer stars Ryan KwantenMickey Rourke, and Freida PintoBlunt Force Trauma‘s plot synopsis: “Follows the journey of John and Colt, gunfighters and sometimes lovers, on parallel but very different journeys through an underground dueling culture.”

Mickey Rourke is one of my favourite actors of all time. When I was a kid, I watched garbage like the horrid Jean-Claude Van Damme/Dennis Rodman vehicle, Double Time, where Rourke was already in the troughs of his career, face ruined by surgery, career ruined by drugs and personality. When Sin City was in pre-production, I decided to go through Rourke’s filmography. I watched everything, and realized what a legend this guy was.

Mickey Rourke was a combination of James DeanMarlon Brando, and Bruce Willis before Bruce Willis was Bruce Willis. He was the OG tough guy, someone you could believe committing crimes, someone you could see being violent yet charming, helpful but lethal. He had demons in his closet, and he was his own man. That’s a pretty alluring combination for a young man who wants to be an actor. I was hooked.

In case you’re unfamiliar with his work, I’d recommend going through chronological order. His best performances are in films such as Barfly, Body Heat, Rumble Fish, Nine 1/2 Weeks, DinerAngel HeartThe Pope of Greenwich Village, DominoThe Wrestler, and yes, Bullet (I have a soft-spot for that flick, seeing as buffed up Rourke and Tupac Shakur have a fist-fight in the rain, and Adrien Brody plays Rourke’s brother).

Anyway, this entire write-up is to maximize the downfall we’re getting to see nowadays. Rourke had his chance with Sin City and The Wrestler, but it’s just not working out, sadly. Take a look at this Blunt Force Trauma trailer. It’s just depressing. He’s the wizened old gunfighter, sure, but that also means he likely just spent a week shooting his scenes, which are likely largely comprised of him sitting there, spewing mediocre dialogue. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe this is the role we’ve all been waiting for from Mickey. Maybe.

I grew up in Hamburg to a German father and Ecuadorian mother. Obsessive student of film, Hip-Hop, and stand-up comedy. I love the dark dreambox that is the cinema auditorium. I love mountains and the ocean, but am equally exhilarated by the jungle of the city. I hope to one day create something that hits someone in the brain with thunderous effect.
