The Bottom Line: April 20, 2018: A Group Of Crazy Men and One Crazy Woman Square Off!

The Bottom Line: April 20, 2018

A very slow weekend at the movies in terms of films opening, with audiences looking ahead to next weekends latest Marvel feature. This weekend only Super Troopers 2 and I Feel Pretty are debuting. Find out how they will all do in this week’s edition of The Bottom Line!

Box Office Top Five

As I predicted last week, Rampage starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took first place at the box office with $35.7 million. Second place went to A Quiet Place, which took in $32.9 million. Truth Or Dare opened its first weekend in third place with $18.6 million, while Ready Player One took fourth with $11.5 million. Blockers rounded out the top five with $10.7 million.

A Closer Look at Some of this Week’s Films.

Super Troopers 2 (R) 100 mins.

Arriving 16 years after the first film, which debuted in 2002, Super Troopers 2 is most likely going to finish the weekend just outside of the top 5. I haven’t seen many advertisements on television for the film, and both the lack of star power and the amount of time since the first film are definitely going to hurt the box office. But it could be a surprise hit if their is enough silent demand out there from the cult classic.

I Feel Pretty (PG-13) 110 mins.

Amy Schumer flamed out incredibly quickly in terms of box office power. And this is not surprising considering she has plagiarized many comedians material, and alienated half the country with her crude and misinformed remarks on the current administration. STX will be distributing her latest feature, and is hoping that it can land in the top 5 despite mixed reviews (which I think it will).

The Bottom Line

A Quiet Place is most likely going to regain the top spot, but second through fifth place could go to any film that has the better holding power. I predict that Rampage will hold off I Feel Pretty and land in second, with the latter in third. Truth Or Dare will finish in fourth, and Ready Player One will continue its impressive fun rounding out the Top 5.
