The Fate of the Furious Movie Banner

Box Office: April 14-16, 2017

The Fate of the Furious was Number One at the box office over the weekend with $100.1 Million. There was speculative analysis that The Fate of the Furious would open to a $100 Million weekend and their analysis was accurate. The Fate of the Furious was always going to open big and be Number One this weekend.

This was helped by the fact that there were no other major releases opening this weekend. The other possible new releases for this weekend knew to stay clear of The Fate of the Furious as it would effect their opening take at the box office.

The Boss Baby was Second with $15.5 Million for $116.3 Million so far. Beauty and the Beast was Third with $13.6 Million for $454.6 Million so far. Smurfs: The Lost Village was Fourth with $6.5 Million. Going in Style was Fifth with $6.3 Million. Gifted, Get Out, Power Rangers, The Case for Christ, and Kong: Skull Island rounded out the Top Ten respectively.

The Fate of the Furious (alternatively known as Fast & Furious 8 and Fast 8, and often stylized as F8) is a 2017 American action film directed by F. Gary Gray and written by Chris Morgan. It is the eighth installment in The Fast and the Furious franchise. The film stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, Scott Eastwood, Nathalie Emmanuel, Don Omar, Tego Calderon, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron. The Fate of the Furious follows Dominic Toretto (Diesel), who has settled down with his wife Letty (Rodriguez), until cyberterrorist Cipher (Theron) coerces him into working for her and turns him against his team.

Next week sees the release of: Unforgettable, The Promise, Born in China, and Free Fire. The Fate of the Furious will be Number One at the box office next week as well. The new films that are opening next weekend will not be strong enough to dethrone the latest The Fast and the Furious installment. Two weeks from now The Circle opens. That film will be strong enough to dethrone The Fate of the Furious with the newly enhanced star power of Emma Watson (via Beauty and the Beast) and Tom Hanks.
