Box Office: Feb 25, 2008

Vantage Point takes the top spot this weekend with $24 Million. This film, with an ensemble cast, benefited by coming out on a weekend that bore no highly anticipated films whatsoever. In second place was Jumper with $12 Million, down 53.8% of its audience from last weekend when it premiered in the number one spot. Jumper is going to plummet out of the top 5 very quickly but not as quickly as it deserves. In third place was The Spiderwick Chronicles with $12.6 Million, down 33.7% from last weekend. Last weekends number 2 film (because of the way it was marketed on television, clever), Step Up 2: The Streets, dropped 48.2% of its audience (even though it played in an additional 10 theaters) and took in another $9.7 Million for a two week total of $41.4 Million. Not bad for a generic movie about dancing. Rounding out this weekend’s top 5 was Fool’s Gold with $6.2 Million. Definitely, Maybe, Be Kind, Rewind (premiering this weekend for a take of $4.1 Million), Juno, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, There Will Be Blood were the remainder of this weekend’s top ten respectively. The two other major releases this weekend bombed. Witless Protection premiered in 13^th place with $2.1 Million and Charlie Bartlett in 14^th place for $1.8 Million. I expected Witless Protection to tank, “Get’er Done”, but Charlie Bartlett was not 14th place bad. Juno, the little Indie that could, in its twelfth week in theaters, took in another $4.1 Million for a total $130.3 Million. I have seen this film twice. It deserves every penny.
