Box Office: January 20-22, 2017

Split premiered in the Number One spot at the box office with $40.1 Million so far. I have been rooting for M. Night Shyamalan to get back into the groove that he struck when he first emerged in Hollywood with The Sixth Sense. After years of “okay” films and outright flops, Shyamalan has done so.

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage premiered in Second Place this weekend with $20 Million. Hidden Figures was Third with $16.2 Million. Sing was in Fourth with $9 Million for $249.3 Million so far. La La Land was Fifth with $8.3 Million. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (which crossed the $1 Billion mark world-wide), Monster Trucks, Patriots Day, The Founder (which premiered this weekend), and Sleepless rounded out the top ten respectively.

Split is a 2017 American psychological horror thriller film written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The film stars James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy and Betty Buckley, and follows a man with 23 different personalities who kidnaps three girls.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage (released as xXx: Reactivated in some countries) is a 2017 American action film directed by D. J. Caruso and written by F. Scott Frazier. It stars Vin Diesel, Donnie Yen, Deepika Padukone, Kris Wu, Ruby Rose, Tony Jaa, Nina Dobrev, Toni Collette and Samuel L. Jackson.

The Founder is a 2016 American biographical drama film directed by John Lee Hancock and written by Robert Siegel. The film stars Michael Keaton as Ray Kroc and portrays the story of his acquisition of the McDonald’s fast food chain. Nick Offerman and John Carroll Lynch co-star as McDonald’s actual founders Richard and Maurice McDonald.

Next week sees the release of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Gold, Un Padre No Tan Padre, A Dog’s Purpose, and The Salesman.
