MIT students win the jackpot this weekend. 21, in its first week of release, earned $23.7 Million on 2,648 screens. Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who! was Number Two with $17.4 Million on 3,826 screens but lost 29.1% of its audience from last weekend. Superhero Movie premiered in third place with $9.5 Million. If this movie had gotten the Number One spot like Meet the Spartans had its premiere weekend, we would eventually see a torrent of spoof movies. We still might. Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns was Fourth over the weekend with $7.76 Million. Shutter, 10,000 BC, Stop-Loss (a film that I thought would perform better, premiered in Eighth Place with $4.5 Million), College Road Trip and The Bank Job rounded out the top ten respectively. The last major premiere of the week, Run Fat Boy Run, took in $2.39 Million for the Thirteenth spot.
