Box Office: May 26-28, 2017: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2, & More

Johnny Depp Kaya Scodelario Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Box Office: May 26-28, 2017

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales premiered in the Number One spot at the box office over the weekend with $62.1 Million. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was Second for the second week in a row with $19.8 Million for $333.2 Million so far. World-wide, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has made $783.3 Million.

Baywatch premiered in Third Place this weekend with $18.1 Million. I predicted that the film would open in second but it would seem that not even nostalgia (how can one predict sentiment?) could help this poorly reviewed comedy.

Alien: Covenant was Fourth with $10.5 Million. I knew that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2  would hold position stronger than Alien: Covenant. That could be calculated from its holds from previous weeks. I had no idea that Alien: Covenant would drop from first to fourth in the space of one week. By week three of its release, Alien: Covenant  will be out of the Top Five at the box office. It might be out of the Top Seven by that point. At the box office, no one can hear a movie studio scream.

Everything, Everything was Fifth with $6.1 Million. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, Snatched, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, The Boss Baby, and Beauty and the Beast rounded out the Top Ten respectively.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (also known as Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge) is a 2017 American fantasy swashbuckler film, and the fifth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. The film is directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg from a script by Jeff Nathanson, with Jerry Bruckheimer serving again as producer. Johnny Depp, Kevin McNally and Geoffrey Rush reprise their roles as Jack Sparrow, Joshamee Gibbs and Hector Barbossa, respectively. The film also stars Javier Bardem as Armando Salazar, Brenton Thwaites as Henry Turner and Kaya Scodelario as Carina Smyth.

Baywatch is a 2017 American action comedy film directed by Seth Gordon and based on the television series of the same name. The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Priyanka Chopra, Jon Bass, and Ilfenesh Hadera.

Next week sees the release of: Wonder Woman and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. Wonder Woman will open in First place. That is guaranteed. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is going to drop almost half of its audience next weekend so the children’s film Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie may premiere in Second. Find more of my predictions in my weekly Now In-Theater column.
