Box Office / Weekend of Aug. 15 – 17

The Dark Knight’s number one run had to end some time. With the premiere of Tropical Thunder this weekend, I knew it was going to happen. I wanted to see it at number one for five weeks in a row but it wasn’t to be. As mentioned, Tropic Thunder took the top spot this weekend with $26 Million. Number Two was The Dark Knight with $16.7 Million for a total of $471.4 Million. The second major premiere of the weekend, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, was Third and opened with $15.5 Million. The third major premiere of the weekend, Mirrors, was Fourth and opened with $11.1 Million. In Fifth Place this weekend was Pineapple Express with $10 Million. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Mamma Mia!, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Step Brothers and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (the fourth major premiere of the weekend) rounded out the top ten respectively.
