Madea went to prison at the right. Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail premiered this weekend and was Number One at the box office with $41.1 Million. This is a prime example of releasing a film at the right time, in this case, when no really good films/blockbusters are released on the same weekend. The same is true on the Second Place film over the weekend, Taken. Taken rose from third last weekend to second place since no notable action films were released this weekend, bringing in an additional $11 Million for a total of $95 Million so far. I can not believe Taken, a film shelved for so long, is about to break the $100 Million dollar mark. Coraline was Third with $11 Million. He’s Just Not That Into You was Fourth with $8.5 Million. Slumdog Millionaire, showing in 610 more theaters than last week, rose from Ninth Place last weekend to Fifth with $8 Million fo a total of $98. Friday The 13th (2009), Confessions of a Shopaholic, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Fired Up (which premiered this weekend), and The International.
