Gina Rodriguez To Star In Carmen Sandiego Film

Jane The Virgin star Gina Rodriguez has been cast as Carmen Sandiego in a planned live-action movie adaptation from Netflix.

Although Rodriguez is primarily known for her role on the aforementioned CW series, she has also appeared in a number of films. Some of her film credits include Enter the Dangerous Mind, Sticky Notes, Deepwater Horizon, and most recently, Annihilation. She has also lent her voice to several productions, such as The Star, Ferdinand, and Smallfoot.

Although the project is described as a “stand-alone” feature, Rodriguez has also been enlisted by Netflix to voice the character for a new animated series that will introduce Sandiego to a new generation of viewers. The proposed program is slated to include twenty  episodes and premiere on the streaming service sometime in 2019.

Comingsoon.net shares the following information about Netflix’s plans to adapt the popular property into another animated series as well as other elements of the franchise:

The animated Carmen Sandiego series will premiere on Netflix in 2019 after receiving a 20-episode order at 22 minutes each. The series will reportedly be educational as well as entertaining. Criminal mastermind Carmen Sandiego was the star of a number of games, working against the ACME Detective Agency as the head of V.I.L.E. The games taught kids geography and history, math and English. The character has appeared in books and other products as well.
