CAROL (2015) Movie Trailer: Cate Blanchett & Rooney Mara Fall in Love

Carol Movie Trailer. Todd Haynes‘ Carol (2015) movie trailer stars Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, and Kyle Chandler. Carol‘s plot synopsis: “Set in 1950s New York, a department-store clerk who dreams of a better life falls for an older, married woman.”

Now this looks like a beautiful, dramatic, period-piece worth watching in theaters. Not only do I love the work of director Todd Haynes (check out I’m Not There if you’re a Bob Dylan fan, or like good movies), but Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett are two of the greatest working actresses. To see them play around a sandbox comprised of New York City in the 1950s is an utter treat (I had a flashback to Blanchett in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button for a second, there), and I can’t wait to see their desperation and socially prohibited love contrasted with the winter, sludge, and liberation and simultaneous oppression of the big city. There’s just something about that time, and having melancholy fill it, that works wonders for me.

According to Slashfilm, “The film looks like a companion of sorts to Haynes’ Far From Heaven, which similarly explored repressed sexuality in 1950s America. And Carol‘s got a good literary pedigree behind it. It’s based on the novel The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith, who also penned the source material for Strangers on a Train, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and The Two Faces of January.”
