Castlevania TV Show Trailer

Netflix‘s Castlevania (2017) TV show trailer for its animated video game adaptation has been released. This Castlevania promo is all about the Nintendo Entertainment System nostalgia and showing the viewer the roots of this new animation TV series. This is one of the most innovative TV show trailers for a new TV series that I have seen in very long time.

The annoying part is that the creativity in this promo is for a mere animated series and not for something live-action. Regardless, I hope that same creativity is in the TV series itself. Since Adi Shankar (the creative mind behind The Punisher, Venom, and Power Rangers short films) is executive producing the Castlevania series, I have high hopes for this series.

Castlevania used to be one of my favorite video games series. I owned multiple chapters in the video game series including Vampire Killers Dracula X and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Hearing the Belmont name mentioned in this trailer brought back a lot of memories (logged hours and fun).

Castlevania has the look and feel of high-end Japanese animation (why wasn’t Batman: The Killing Joke created via anime instead of low-end America animation? It wouldn’t have helped the terrible script but at least the film would have been pretty to look at it). Frederator Studios did a great job on the look of Castlevania. Castlevania strongly resembles the animation featured in Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust and Ninja Scroll.

The official press release for Castlevania:

Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow! Unlimited Media company, written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar.
