1st trailer for 2nd Batman Unlimited release, 2nd season for unaired Gods & Monsters web series. As previously mentioned, Bruce Timm  & Alan Burnett (Batman, TAS) will be bringing an especially dark take, to three of DC’s tent-pole icons, with Justice League: Gods & Monsters. Prior to that release, however, it has been announced that a series of web shorts – courtesy of a partnership, between Warner Bros. Animation & Machinima – will serve as a lead-in.

Well, it seems that Justice League: Gods & Monsters Chronicles has garnered quite a bit of confidence, from the powers-that-be, as a second season has been announced before the first even airs.

Official Gods & Monsters Chronicles press release:

From visionary producer and animator Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series), Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles turns the DC Universe upside-down. In this dark, alternate world, telling the good guys from the bad guys is never easy: Superman is not the son of Jor-El, he’s the son of General Zod; Wonder Woman is not from peaceful Themyscira, but rather the warring nation of Ares; and Batman is more vampire-bat than man…and he’s not Bruce Wayne. It is unclear if our greatest heroes are here to protect us…or to rule us. With Season 1 set to launch in June, Machinima, Blue Ribbon Content and DC Entertainment have already begun development on Season 2, a 10-episode follow-up to the initial limited series.

In all the recent news, of impending DC darkness, DC’s offering to the kiddie’s table, Batman Unlimited, has gone relatively unnoticed. I might be willing to cite the endeavor as a merchandizing (it directly promotes a Mattel line of action figures), kid-friendly alternative, to all things Dark Knight; but it seems a darker tone had been called for, in order to bring more attention to the line’s second release, Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem.

Batman Unlimited

Official Monster Mayhem Press Release:

The Dark Knight isn’t seeking tricks or treats when Gotham City’s most lethal villains take to the streets on Halloween night in the newest DC Comics animated film – Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment, the original movie arrives from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Blu-rayTM and DVD on August 18, 2015 for a $19.98 SRP, and via Digital HD on August 4.

It’s Halloween night in Gotham City and Scarecrow, Clayface, Silver Banshee and Solomon Grundy have hit the streets to stir up trouble! Batman is on the trail of the city’s spookiest villains while, further complicating matters, the clown prince of crime himself, The Joker, is ruling over this mysterious crew of misfit criminals. It’s up to the Dark Knight to stop this gruesome gang before they unleash “digital laughter,” a computer virus that’s part of a diabolical plan to jeopardize all of Gotham City’s vital technology. Batman, Green Arrow, Cyborg, Nightwing and Red Robin must combine forces to battle these baddies and save the city.

The official trailer:

Even if the Monster Mayhem trailer fails to impress more high-minded superhero fans (oh, the times we live in), the production does come with some highlights. It boasts Batman Beyond vet, Butch Lukic, as producer/ director, with a script written by Assault on Arkham vet, Heath Corson. Throw in DVD extras, like a collection of DC Nation shorts (remember Cartoon Network’s DC Nation? At one point, the shorts were the best part), and there might be something for most everyone.

Justice League: Gods & Monsters Chronicles will begin its three webisode run on June 8, with the full-length feature scheduled for a July 28 release, followed by a 10 webisode second season of Chronicles in 2016. Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem is scheduled for an August 18, 2015 release.
