Noah Hired To Replace Stewart. Trevor Noah is set to replace Jon Stewart as the host of The Daily Show. Noah began working on The Daily Show as an on air contributor back in December of last year. After Stewart announced that he would be leaving the program in February, there has been much speculation over who would take up the mantle of The Daily Show’s anchor. Jon Oliver, the prime candidate for the position, left The Daily Show in 2013 in order to host his own political news/comedy series, Last Week Tonight with Jon Oliver.

Although Noah isn’t a familiar name to American audiences, he ‘s been diligently working on his comedy career for years. Noah’s work is quite prolific in South Africa where he hosted a show called Tonight with Trevor Noah and performed on several prominent comedy tours. Noah made his North American television debut in 2012 with an appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and became the first South African comedian to make an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman a few months later. Noah’s 2013 stand up special Trevor Noah: African American is currently airing on Netflix.

It’s an honor to follow Jon Stewart. He and the team at ‘The Daily Show’ have created an incredible show whose impact is felt all over the world. In my brief time with the show they’ve made me feel so welcome. I’m excited to get started and work with such a fantastic group of people.

Stewart on Noah as his replacement,

I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with…In fact, I may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!

Here is a synopsis on The Daily Show,

Forget the 24 hour biased left wing news media, the best fake news show in the world will provide you with all the news you can handle. The Daily Show is a comedic view of recent news headlines and political figures through a series of satirical monologues by Jon Stewart along with segments by “correspondents” and finally interviews with guest celebrities and political figures. Craig Kilborn (SportsCenter) was the original host until the fourth season when Jon Stewart (The Jon Stewart Show) came in to take over after Kilborn left for CBS. The Daily Show has won multiple Emmy’s and other prestigious awards such as the Peabody Award. It airs Mondays-Thursdays at 11pm ET on Comedy Central
