DAREDEVIL: Matt and Elektra’s Relationship Explored in Season Two [Netflix]

Daredevil Elektra Comics

Daredevil’s Second Season to Explore Matt and Elektra’s Relationship. During Daredevil’s first season, it was teased that Matt Murdock mentioned about a college fling he had with a certain Greek woman. It turns out to be Elektra, whom we will get to see during season two.

When season two debuts in March, the Netflix series will go deep into Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Elektra’s (Elodie Yung) relationship and challenge Murdock in why he wants to wear the costume. When the two were dating in college, Elektra left Murdock in mysterious circumstances. When she returns in season two, she will ask him for a favor. Her motives will become clear once the show returns in the next month. It’s also interesting to note that Matt can detect when someone is lying by listening to their heartbeats, but when he listens to Elektra’s, he can’t tell if she is telling the truth or not.

Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb touched upon the dynamic of Matt and Elektra’s relationship and where it goes during the superhero series’ sophomore run. Here’s what he said at the TCA panel (via SlashFilm):

I think one of the things that’s dynamic about Elodie’s performance is that you never quite know if Elektra’s telling you the truth.  Matt, who has this sort of ability to be a human lie detector, because he’s emotionally attached to her, it skews his ability to be able to know whether or not she’s telling the truth or he’s being manipulated, or is she actually not manipulating him? That kind of interaction, and I think the natural emotion that was going on between Charlie and Elodie that we captured on film, added a great deal of spark to it. Particularly, given that Karen Page is an equally strong and independent woman who has her own story that’s going on throughout the series. As you will watch it unfold, you get very caught up in the push and pull of Matt Murdock’s life.
