DARK UNIVERSE: Doug Liman Hopes to Change Landscape of Comic Book Genre

Justice League Dark

Doug Liman to Change Comic Book Films with Dark Universe

All eyes are going towards director Doug Liman after he was announced to helm the upcoming Justice League Dark adaptation. Now being called Dark Universe, the director says he plans to change the face of comic book films with this upcoming movie when it comes out.

It was a few months back when Doug Liman was announced to replace Guillermo del Toro as director for Dark Universe. Liman will be working through Guillermo’s script to develop the film, which has been confirmed to be a part of the DC Film Universe. Speaking with IGN, Liman talked about the kind of film he wants to make with Dark Universe and how he hopes it will be different from other comic book films.

Yeah, I mean first of all, I love those characters, and I love Warner Bros., and I love [producer] Scott Rudin, and it’s — and you know, I get asked to come in and do things that are “unconventional.” If people want conventional, they don’t come to me. It’s why doing Invisible was like right up my alley — because how can you be conventional when there aren’t even conventions that exist? And so you know when Warner Bros. wants to sort of turn the comic book genre on its head, they call me.

Liman seems to be excited to start working on the film and give fans something new and fresh. The comic book property does stand out on it’s own in the DC Universe, but having Liman at the helm with Guillermo and Rudin as producers, it will be interesting to see what comes out of Dark Universe once it arrives in theaters.
