DAY MEN: Universal Finds Writer for Comic Book Adaptation

Day Men

Universal Hires Writer for Adaptation of Day Men. The comic book series Day Men is getting a big screen makeover as Universal and Boom! Studios team up to adapt the crime/horror hybrid. The studios responsible for 2 Guns have hired Will Simmons to pen the adaptation.

After the success of their last collaboration 2 Guns, Universal and Boom! Studios announced last August that they would partner up for another project. The Hollywood Reporter stated that Will Simmons was hired after his Murder City script fell through in 2012.

The comic book series was written by Matt Gagnon and Michael Alan Nelson. Day Men is described as a crime drama with vampires as it’s plot surrounds a group of men hired by vampire covens who do their dirty work during the day when they aren’t active. Here’s a full synopsis of the series:

For thousands of years, the world has been controlled by the ’50 Families,’ a secret network of vampire covens engaged in timeless contests of power. But when the sun rises, the vampires are forced to employ the services of a human who acts as their daytime fixer… Trained for centuries to be the mortal soldiers employers, the Day Men go forth at sunrise, alone into the world, to do the bidding of their sleeping benefactors.

What sets itself apart from other vampire stories is that these vampires are part of the Mafia where they control other territories. The story will focus on one Day Man who finds himself in the middle of a war between vampire families.

The adaptation will be directed by Sylvain White, whose last directorial feature was The Losers. Boom! founder and CEO Ross Ritchie will produce the film alongside Stephen Christy.
