DEADPOOL 2 (2018): Russell Crowe Considered For Cable

Russell Crowe Reported To Be In Running To Play Cable In Deadpool 2

Academy Award-winning Gladiator actor Russell Crowe is said to be on the shortlist to play Cable in Deadpool 2.

Prior to today, it was believed that Crow and the other Cable contenders had some serious competition for the role. Namely, it was said that Academy Award nominee Brad Pitt was being considered for the character, but director David Leitch shot down such reports by saying “Things didn’t work out schedule-wise”. However, Crowe still has to outmaneuver yet another Academy Award nominee in the form of Michael Shannon, who was previously said to be the favored candidate for the role.

The stakes appear to be high even for Crowe himself, as the actor retweeted fan art of him as Nathan Summers, the real identity of Cable, and shared it with Rob Liefeld, the original creator of Deadpool, on the social media site.

Superherohype, the source of this story, shared the following about the film:

We recently talked to screenwriter Rhett Reese, who gave us a taste of what the relationship between Cable and the Merc with a Mouth will be in the upcoming sequel. “Ryan plays Deadpool with a hint of femininity, and I think that can be funny opposite a Cable who’s über-masculine,” Reese told us. “That’ll come into casting and performance and the character design and his wardrobe and things like that too. I think we’ll definitely play into that.”
