DEADPOOL 2: Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick Writing Sequel

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick Returning to Write Deadpool 2

Screenwriting team Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are coming back to write for the Deadpool sequel despite initial reports that they weren’t returning. Star Ryan Reynolds clarified fans that the writers are still on board to work on the next adventure for the Merc with a Mouth.

Ryan Reynolds went on Twitter to assure fans that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick would be coming back to write Deadpool 2. Collider put up a report yesterday that Drew Goddard was working on a script for the sequel. Since the follow-up lost both Tim Miller and Junkie XL as director and composter, it was warning sign that the film may have lost their original writers as well even though Goddard has done some fine work for both film and television with his work on Lost and Daredevil.

After the release of that report, Ryan Reynolds tweeted on his page to calm everyone down saying that both writers are still involved in the sequel. “Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are still very much writing the screenplay. They’re the heartbeat of the whole operation,” he tweeted. Reynolds didn’t mention anything about Goddard in his statement.

Since then, Collider has updated their report saying that Goddard is more of a consultant for the film rather than a replacement. However, the site didn’t offer any other information.

Are you guys glad that the original writing team is coming back for the sequel?
