Adam Wingard‘s Death Note (2017) teaser trailer stars Lakeith Stanfield, Shea Whigham, Margaret Qualley, Willem Dafoe, and Nat Wolff. Death Note‘s plot synopsis: based on Japanese horror manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, “Light Turner, a bright student who stumbles across a mystical notebook that has the power to kill any person whose name he writes in it. Light decides to launch a secret crusade to rid the streets of criminals. Soon, the student-turned-vigilante finds himself pursued by a famous detective known only by the alias L.”

I have heard about the manga Death Note and the hopes of a live-action film for years. I never thought it would happen. We are now getting a live-action of Ghost in the Shell so perhaps a Death Note film was inevitable. Perhaps. The central concept of the film taps into  the famous say: “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Seeing an ordinary corrupted by the power of death over everyone should be interesting.

Here are questions: Does Light Turner ever put the names of well-known terrorists in the notebook? Leaders of foreign countries that are killers, who rule through fear? We’ll see.

Death Note also stars Masi Oka, Michael Shamus Wiles, Matthew Kevin Anderson, Barbara Beall, Lia Lam, Christian Sloan, Jessica McLeod, Cole Vigue, Paul Nakauchi, and Paul Nakauchi.
