DJANGO UNCHAINED: Kerry Washington Cast by Quentin Tarantino

Kerry Washington, Flowers

Kerry Washington has been cast in Django Unchained. Kerry Washington being cast in Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained (2012) ends the speculation on who would play the pivotal female role in the western film. Kerry Washington will play Broomhilda, the wife of Django (Jamie Foxx). Kerry Washington had long been rumored as the frontrunner for the role. Now its a done deal.

More Kerry Washington’s casting in Django Unchained and how her character fits into the western movie:

Director Quentin Tarantino made his choice and The Weinstein Company began exclusive negotiations with her CAA reps last night. She’ll play the long-suffering slave wife of Django (Jamie Foxx), who is freed by a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) and taught the tricks of that trade. Django’s real desire is to be reunited with his wife, who winds up in a variety of unsavory places and whose travails drive the plot. It leads to a confrontation in Candyland, a ranch owned by the notorious Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).

Tarantino had his eye on Washington from the beginning, but he was also intrigued with making a discovery in the role, and that led to a long casting search before the director went back to Washington for the female lead. Washington will next be seen in The Details, and she stars with Eddie Murphy in A Thousand Words. She is managed by Katherine Atkinson of Washington Square Arts.

His slave ranch is called Candyland? This movie is going to be insane.

More on the plot of Django Unchained:

Jamie Foxx is the freed slave Django. With the German dentist turned bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz), he kills white slave-runners and then tries to free his wife Broomhilda (not yet cast) from bigshot slaver Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), [a Mississippi plantation owner].

Django Unchained also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Dennis Christopher, Don Johnson, Gerald McRaney, M.C. Gainey, Treat Williams, Laura Cayouette, and Michael Kenneth Williams.
