DOCTOR STRANGE (2016): Benedict Wong Reveals More About His Role

Benedict Wong Doctor Strange

Benedict Wong Talks About His Role on Doctor Strange. We’ve learned that Benedict Wong would be playing Wong in Doctor Strange, however he won’t be the same one that fans of the comics will be familiar with. We may end up seeing a very different iteration of the character.

The Marvel comics revealed Wong to be the manservant for Doctor Strange, similar to Batman’s Alfred. In recent issues though, the comics reinvented the character as a fighter and a practitioner of the mystical arts in his own right. Speaking with Den of Geek, Benedict Wong seems to have revealed that Marvel Studios is looking to use more of the modern version of the character for the movie. “I’m certainly not going to be the tea-making manservant. We’re heading in a different direction. He’s more of a drill sergeant.”

It also looks like we may be seeing Wong do more magic than actual martial arts on Doctor Strange as well. “There isn’t any martial arts for Wong in Doctor Strange actually, he’s more of a drill sergeant to Kamar-Taj. He’s one of the masters of sorcery.” As far as returning for a possible sequel, Benedict admits that he would like to reprise the role if he ever gets the chance to.

Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelson, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
