DVD / Blu-ray New Releases: November 26, 2013: BREAKING BAD, RED 2

Dean Norris Bryan Cranston Breaking Bad

The most iconic show in recent television history has just been released on home video. Vince Gilligan’s hit AMC show Breaking Bad has hit the shelves as both a Final Season and a Complete Series set. Bryan Cranston gives the performance of his career as Walter White, a cancer-stricken high school chemistry teacher who turns to producing methamphetamine as a means to provide financial stability for his family once he dies. His rise to a regional drug kingpin tears apart his marriage and family and repeatedly jeopardizes his father-son relationship with his protégé Jesse Pinkman (played with razor sharp acuity by Aaron Paul). His mano a mano with Giancarlo Esposito’s Gus Fring remains one of the most talked about rivalries. Unlike many shows who stay around past their expiration date, Breaking Bad always managed to keep its audience guessing the next twists and turns, gasping, laughing, and crying at its surprising developments. With breakout performances by Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Lavelle Crawford, Anna Gunn, and R.J. Mitte,  Breaking Bad dominated the interwebs in its final season and rightfully earned a spot in the pantheon of television greats.

Red 2 comes blasting onto the shelves this week. Aging CIA agents get pulled back into the life in order to track down a nuclear bomb. In order to find the device, they must dodge a world class assassin, interrogate high-level terrorists, and neutralize power mad government officials in Paris, London, and Moscow. The action comedy sequel to Red stars John Malkovich, Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker, Anthony Hopkins, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Red 2 is available as a single-disc DVD or a Blu-ray combo pack (Blu-ray+DVD+UV+DC).

Jobs traces the career arc of one of the most influential businessmen of the 20th and the 21st centuries. It stars Ashton Kutcher as Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and traces his humble beginnings as a brilliant college drop out to the head of an empire worth more than the gross domestic product of many nations in the world. Director Joshua Michael Stern had a difficult task of directing Kutcher, James Woods, Dermot Mulroney, Amanda Crew, and Josh Gad in this biopic shot soon after the passing of the iconic tech giant. Jobs is available as either a single disc Blu-ray (BD+DC+UV) or single disc DVD.
