EMPRESS: Mark Millar Joins As Producer

Empress

Mark Millar signs on to Empress as a producer. The prolific comic writer will work alongside producers Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum to bring his latest comic series to the big screen.

Renowned among comic fans for his work on such noted series as Marvel‘s The Ultimates and Civil War, Millar has seen several of his works adapted into major motion pictures. Kick-Ass and Kingsman: The Secret Service, both of which performed well at the box office and had or are in the process of getting sequels, are two such adaptations, with Captain America: Civil War also drawing from Millar’s work. Other comics of his to be made into films in the near future are American Jesus and Supercrooks.

Naturally, Millar’s new Empress colleagues welcomed him abroad:

“Nobody creates universes that translate into big movie ideas better than Millar,” said Kirschenbaum. “With Empress he’s raised the bar yet again. Part Star Wars, part Guardians of the Galaxy and part something wholly fresh that only the amazing brain of Millar could spawn.”

“In terms of pure concept, this is the most ambitious story I’ve ever come up with so it needed the most experienced producers I’ve ever been in business with,” Millar added. “Joe Roth is a genuine Hollywood legend and Jeff Kirschenbaum was part of the team that broke every record in the book at Universal last year. Even being on the same poster as these two guys is exciting to me.”

When I'm not working towards my certificate in Radio and Television/Video Production at Fullerton College, I enjoy reading (horror, science fiction, and historical/political nonfiction are particular favorites), participating in my school's TV and theatre clubs, attending movie screenings, plays, concerts, and other events, and trying to come up with pithy things to say on social media. Believe it or not, there are occasions where I find time to write for my own leisure.
