Ed Helms Cast in Upcoming Body Swap Comedy

Comic actor Ed Helms has been slated to join the forthcoming Netflix film, Family Leave, based on a popular book.

Ed Helms may have carved out a career for himself as a funnyman in films like The Hangover and Vacation but, more recently, he has shown a more dramatic side to his acting abilities. Take his heartfelt and touching movie, Together Together, from last year, for example. Helms turned in one of his best performances in a role tailor-fit for his versatile abilities. Now, the underrated Helms is joining the radiant Jennifer Garner in the zany Netflix comedy, Family Leave.

Based on a book titled Bedtime for Mommy by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, Family Leave is a body switch comedy in the vein of Big, Mack & Rita and Jennifer Garner’s own 13 Going on 30. It is a return for Garner to streamer Netflix where she made the enormously popular comedy, Yes Day.

McG has been selected to direct Family Leave. McG started out making music videos for tunes such as “Every Morning,” a Sugar Ray song, and “All Star” by Smash Mouth. McG came on to the film scene with his work on the immensely enjoyable Charlie’s Angels films. He has since grown quite an impressive resume of pictures that include solid films like We Are Marshall, This Means War and 3 Days to Kill.

Helms took over for Chevy Chase in the National Lampoon’s Vacation spin-off movie, Vacation, from 2015. He also made Love the Coopers and Tag. He’s a natural choice to appear opposite Garner for a movie that will most likely be very entertaining to watch for fans of these types of screwball comedies.

The premise of Family Leave revolves around a couple named Jess and Bill Walker. All hell sort of breaks loose when there is a body switch that leaves the couple and their kids scrambling in terms of achieving their daily goals. It sounds like a plot a bit reminiscent of hits like Freaky Friday or, even, Yes Day in which Garner played a mom who went through a fairy tale type of day saying “yes” to everything her kids wanted. Will Jess and Bill sort things out and return to their respective lives? You will have to see the movie to find out!

The always entertaining Ed Helms is certain to add another big success to his resume with Family Leave which will hopefully be revealing the rest of the casting choices for the picture soon. With Helms and Garner at the center of the picture, there’s no denying it will probably be a film full of charming moments and fun acting.
