Jude Law Signs On To The Cast Of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them 2

Academy Award-nominated The Talented Mr. Ripley actor Jude Law is set to portray a young Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2.

In years past, the role was played by the late Richard Harris in the first two Harry Potter films before being taken over by Michael Gambon for the remaining six entries in the franchise. For the purposes of the upcoming spin-off sequel, however, the character will be portrayed in his youth as a Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts long before he came to know the titular hero of the main series.

Other actors said to have been in the running for the role were Christian Bale, Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Jared Harris. Additionally, Johnny Depp has been confirmed as co-starring in the film.

CBR.com, the source of this story, shares the following information about the first installment of the Fantastic Beasts series:

“Harry Potter” creator J. K. Rowling wrote her first screenplay for “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” and has written its follow-up installment as well, even posting a photo of the script on Twitter. The first “Fantastic Beasts” has grossed over $800 million worldwide since its release in November. The film had a budget of $180 million, making it Warner Bros. Entertainment’s highest grossing film of 2016 internationally.
