AMC‘s Fear the Walking Dead ‘El Matadero’ trailer & clip stars Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colman Domingo, Mercedes Mason, Danay Garcia, and Rubén Blades. Guest stars include Daniel Sharman, Michael Greyeyes, Justin Rain, Lisandra Tena, and Kelsey Scott.

So the tying of Fear the Walking Dead threads went the way of the fray, again – character restlessness has practically been a series (if not genre) hallmark. The fact that it’s Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), this time, seems ironic – given what a previous version of her character felt about Nick (Frank Dillane) indulging the habit.

It’s just as well, to besides – her going solo has given Nick a reason to take his new psycho-puppet act on the road. While Troy (Daniel Sharman) seems all too happy to play the role of undead, Nick might be wanting to get too close to the audience he’s playing dead for.

For her part, Alicia has certainly earned the right to weaponize a ball pool; but encounters another solo traveler, who (thanks to having gone through a certain Passage) has developed a taste for a more rough-housing style of play.

Think Michonne. But without the sword. Or the good manners.

None of this sufficiently distracts from a number of very strong hints, regarding the one member of Madison’s (Kim Dickens) crew that we never see in the trailer. Either a key character will be left dangerously disappointed, or we’ve just been set-up for a deep exhale.

I’m not holding my breath.
