Catherine The Great, The Disaster Artist, Black Panther, and other films have made recent film casting, screenwriting, and director news. These films come from movie studios primarily based in the United States. The castings, screenwriters, and directors are subject to change.

Black Panther

Ryan Coogler is in negotiations to direct “Black Panther” for Marvel and Disney

Joe Robert Cole will write “Black Panther,” and while it’s unclear whether Coogler will have an official screenplay credit, he’ll likely work with Cole and Marvel executives to hone one cohesive vision for the film

Coogler is represented by WME and Cohen & Gardner. His hiring was first reported by Birth. Movies. Death, while Heroic Hollywood reported Marvel’s initial interest in the director.

Young Americans / College Republicans

George MacKay is set to replace Dane DeHaan in “Young Americans,” which has now been retitled “College Republicans”

Dane DeHaan was attached to star as Karl Rove in John Krokidas’ sophomore feature, before the casting change. The film also stars Daniel Radcliffe and Amanda Seyfried.

Please Don’t Come Back From The Moon

Jeffrey Wahlberg is in negotiations to play the lead in the indie drama Please Don’t Come Back From The Moon

The novel tells a story of abandonment, when all the men in a remote California desert town walk away from their families, one by one. They leave their angry, frustrated sons and daughters behind — kids who act out, engage in acts of petty burglary and vandalism, and look for love and family connection in the aftermath of their abandonment, all the while trying to understand why their fathers have “gone to the moon,” leaving them to traverse the difficult path to adulthood alone.

Human People

Michael Cera, Tavi Gevinson, and Abbi Jacobson have signed on to topline Human People, the latest from Bad Fever director Dustin Guy Defa….The ensemble piece follows a variety of New York characters navigating unexpected problems and their relationships during the course of a single day. Alongside Cera, Gevinson and Jacobson the film also features Isiah Whitlock, Michaela Watkins, Ben Rosenfield, Buddy Durress, George Sample III, Bene Coopersmith, and Philip Baker Hall.

Catherine The Great

Barbra Streisand has come aboard to direct Catherine The Great, a feature film from the Black List script written by Kristina Lauren Anderson.

The pic is about a sensual Catherine trapped in an abusive marriage with the heir to the Russian throne. But, when her inept husband proves incapable of ruling, she utilizes her intelligence, fortitude, and passion to rise to power, becoming Catherine the Great.

The Disaster Artist

Josh Hutcherson…is in talks to join James and Dave Franco in New Line’s “The Disaster Artist”

Hutcherson will play Philip Haldiman, who portrayed Denny (the neighboring college student) in “The Room.”

Novitiate

Melissa Leo, Dianna Agron and “The Leftovers” actress Margaret Qualley will star in the coming-of-age drama “Novitiate”

“Novitiate” marks the feature directorial debut of Margaret Betts, who wrote the script in order to explore a story about the ways in which women love. Kat Westergaard will be the director of photography.
