Channing Tatum is officially set to play Gambit in an upcoming “X-Men” spinoff movie, sources confirm…Tatum is following in the footsteps of Hugh Jackman, who has headlined two standalone “Wolverine” spinoffs

The Great Gilly Hopkins (Picturehouse)

Julia Stiles has joined the cast of The Great Gilly Hopkins…Sophia Nelisse is playing young protagonist Gilly, who dreams of being reunited one day with her mysterious and exotic mother. Stiles will play Gilly’s mother. Also newly added to the cast is Bill Cobbs (The Bodyguard, Rake) as Gilly’s blind, kindly neighbor Mr. Randolph…Rounding out the cast is Billy Magnussen (Into The Woods, The East) as the youngster’s overworked and underpaid social worker. Kathy Bates, Octavia Spencer, and Glenn Close also co-star.

Untitled Howard Hughes Project

Alec Baldwin is the latest actor to join Warren Beatty‘s untitled Howard Hughes project, portraying the reclusive billionaire’s lawyer Bob Mayhew…Martin Sheen, Matthew Broderick, and Beatty’s wife Annette Bening [were previously cast]. The two leads are Alden Ehrenreich (Beautiful Creatures), who plays Hughes’ assistant, and the young assistant’s actress love interest, played by Lily Collins (Mirror, Mirror).

6 Miranda Drive

Matt Walsh has been cast in 6 Miranda Drive, the microbudget thriller from Blumhouse Productions starring Kevin Bacon and Radha Mitchell. In the pic from writer-director Greg McLean, Walsh will play Gary Carter, is a guy’s guy who is quick with a bad joke and a cold beer. He and his wife join the Taylor family on their summer camping vacation to the Grand Canyon; after the trip, the Taylors unwittingly bring a supernatural force home with them.

The Driftless Area

Frank Langella has joined the cast of The Driftless Area…Anton Yelchin stars as a resourceful bartender who moves back to his hometown after his parents die, falls for an enigmatic woman (Zooey Deschanel) and is unwittingly pitted against a volatile crook (John Hawkes).

Insurgent

Oscar winner Octavia Spencer will play Johanna, the leader of the Amity faction, in the second installment of Lionsgate/Summit’s Divergent franchise. Insurgent, the second of four pics, will be released March 20, 2015. Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Kate Winslet return from the first movie

Jurassic World

Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino…has signed on to score Universal’s 2015 dino blockbuster Jurassic World…The fourth film in the Jurassic Park series is being helmed by Colin Trevorrow from his script with Derek Connolly and is set to star Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, Vincent D’Onofrio, Irrfan Khan, and French thesp Omar Sy

The Hero Of Color City

Owen Wilson and Jessica Capshaw have joined the voice cast of Magnolia Pictures’ animated feature The Hero Of Color City…Christina Ricci, Rosie Perez, Wayne Brady and Craig Ferguson also star for director Frank Gladstone.

Don’t Hang Up

Garrett Clayton is set to star in Don’t Hang Up, an indie thriller from directors Damien Mace and Alexis Wajsbrot. Clayton will play Brady, an athletic teen who gets caught after a series of drunken prank calls and has to fight for his life when the tables are turned on him and his best friend (Gregg Sulkin).

Mission: Impossible 5 (Paramount Pictures)

Christopher McQuarrie is definitely directing Mission: Impossible 5 for returning star Tom Cruise, but things have taken a slight detour. The production just hired Will Staples to re-write the script which was originally written by Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3).

The Trade

The Trade is finally moving forward again, under new director Jay Roach…The original script by David Mandel landed on the Black List in 2009. Ben Affleck and his brother Casey Affleck have since done a rewrite.

Krampus (Legendary Pictures)

Legendary Pictures has tapped Trick ‘R Treat director Michael Dougherty to take the reins…Dougherty has been hired to co-write (with Todd Casey and Zach Shields) and direct Krampus

Don’t Mess With Texas (MGM)

Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara are set to co-star in a buddy action comedy formerly called Don’t Mess With Texas. It’s currently untitled. Anne Fletcher (The Guilt Trip, The Proposal) will direct from a script by David Feeney and John Quaintance…The movie centers on uptight and by-the-book cop (Witherspoon) who is trying to protect the sexy and outgoing widow of a drug boss (Vergara) as they race through Texas pursued by crooked cops and murderous gunmen.

Transformers: Age of Extinction  (Paramount Pictures)

Director Michael Bay has tapped John Goodman and Ken Watanabe to voice two all new Autobots in his highly anticipated film “TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION,” the fourth film in the global blockbuster franchise from Paramount Pictures.

Goodman and Watanabe will join legendary voice actors Peter Cullen and Frank Welker.

Goodman will play Autobot Hound, Watanabe will play Drift, while Cullen reprises his role as the voice of Optimus Prime, and Welker takes on another new character, Galvatron.

“I am pleased to welcome two gifted and versatile actors, John Goodman and Ken Watanabe, to the world of Transformers,” said Bay. “And to reteam with Peter and Frank, who have brought Transformers characters alive from the beginning. I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the best voice talent in the business, and together we will introduce several exciting new robots to fans of the franchise around the world.”

Rounding out the voice-over cast are actors John DiMaggio, Mark Ryan, Robert Foxworth and Reno Wilson. DiMaggio and Ryan will take on the new characters Crosshairs and Lockdown respectively, while Foxworth reprises the role of Ratchet and Wilson returns as Brains.

Bourne 5

[Justin] Lin has moved on from Universal’s money-printing Fast/Furious machine to direct the next Bourne movie…Andrew Baldwin has just been hired to script. He worked on the long-simmering Logan’s Run remake, and also wrote the “terrorist thriller” Bastille Day that has Idris Elba attached to play one lead role.

Brilliance

Noomi Rapace is set to co-star with Will Smith in Legendary’s “Brilliance.”…Julius Onah is directing…David Koepp penned the script based on the Marcus Sakey novel

Secret

Billy Ray will direct “The Secret in Their Eyes,” an adaptation of Argentinean pic that won the 2009 Academy Award for foreign-language film…Written by Ray, the revenge tale stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Gwyneth Paltrow in the story of a cold case that suddenly heats up when a former MI-5 agent returns to Boston, still obsessed by the unsolved murder that continues to haunt him.
