Margot Robbie Tonya Harding

Mudbound, Okja, I, Tonya have made recent film casting, screenwriting, and director news. These films come from movie studios primarily based in the United States. The castings, screenwriters, and directors are subject to change.

I, Tonya

Margot Robbie has been cast as Olympic Figure Skater Tonya Harding in the Steven Rogers written film. Rogers script is based on interviews with  Tonya Harding and her former husband Jeff Gillooly. The film will follow Harding’s fall from grace in 1994 when she, her husband, and others conspired to break the leg of rival Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan. The assault was bungled, Kerrigan’s leg was not broken, only bruised, and all those involved in the attack were eventually bought to justice.

Based on the Hillary Jordan book, Carey Mulligan, Jason Clarke, and Jason Mitchell have been cast in the Dee Rees’ film written by Rees and Virgil Williams.

Mulligan has been cast as Laura McAllan. Clarke has been cast as Jamie McAllan. Mitchell has been cast as Ronsel Jackson.

From Amazon:

In the midst of the family’s struggles, two young men return from the war to work the land (the McAllan Mississippi Delta farm). Jamie McAllan, Laura’s brother-in-law, is everything her husband is not — charming, handsome, and haunted by his memories of combat. Ronsel Jackson, eldest son of the black sharecroppers who live on the McAllan farm, has come home with the shine of a war hero. But no matter his bravery in defense of his country, he is still considered less than a man in the Jim Crow South, where prejudice takes many forms — both subtle and brutal.

Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom

Based on Bruce Brown’s graphic novel, Ron Perlman and Christopher Plummer have been cast in the animated film.

Perlman will voice the character Shoggoth. Plummer will voice the character Dr. Herbert West.

Lili Collins has been cast in the Bong Joon-ho directed monster film.

Collins will play anarchist Red, “only female member of the higher-ranked ALF members.”
