Film Casting: ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS, STAR WARS, Cate Blanchett in THOR: RAGNAROK [Updated]

Robin Hood: Origins, Star Wars, and Thor: Ragnarok have made recent film casting news. These films come from movie studios primarily based in the United States. The castings are subject to change.

Robin Hood: Origins

Lionsgate‘s Robin Hood: Origins has today found its Little John in the form of a big star: Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained, Ray). According to Deadline, the Academy Award winner’s take on the character will be as “a battle hardened but war weary veteran of The Crusades who starts out distrustful of Robin Hood (they fought on opposite sides), and then warms to the young hero.”

Untitled Stars Wars Spinoff

Disney and Lucasfilm are inching closer to finding their young Han Solo for the upcoming untitled “Star Wars” spinoff.

Sources tell Variety that after seeing thousands of actors, execs have cut the list down to about a dozen actors with Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, “Brooklyn” star Emory Cohen and “Everybody Wants Some” actor Blake Jenner among the names making the cut.

Thor: Ragnarok

It was previously confirmed that Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett was in talks for a role in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, though there has been no word on who she could be playing in the film, until now. Speaking with ET, Mark Ruffalo, who will reprise his role of The Hulk in the film, was asked how he felt about Blanchett joining the film, replying:

“I’m so thrilled. I saw her at the Governors’ banquet here and heard that maybe she was circling, they were talking to her about the part, so I ran up to her and I was like, ‘Please, please, please make this work!’ She’s just one of the best, and to have her play a baddie is going to be really exciting.”

Black Panther

Ryan Coogler will be directing Black Panther for Marvel Studios.


All Eyez On Me

Danai Gurira has been cast in film as Afeni Shakur, Tupac Shakur’s mother. Jamal Woolard will play rapper Biggie Smalls again in the film. He first portrayed the late rapper in Notorious.

Kat Graham has been cast as Jada Pinkett Smith, who was friends with Tupac since they were enrolled in the Baltimore School for the Arts.


Priyanka Chopra is in negotiation to join the film.

Three Miles North Of Molkom

Dan Mazer will direct the film and is co-writing it with Jamie Minoprio and Jonathan Stern.

The feature project is inspired by Robert Cannan and Corinna McFarlane’s docu about Angsbacka, a 21st century playground hidden deep in the lakeside forests of Sweden, three miles north of Molkom. There, once a year, the gates open to a thousand international participants, who proceed to take part in a two-week extravaganza incorporating everything from tantric sex to firewalking and shamanism, The film is believed to follows a jock character, who gets separated from his backpacking friends and winds up at the New Age festival by accident.


Adam Driver has been cast as the lead in the series along side Golshifteh Farahani about a bus driver and poet in Paterson, New Jersey.

The Deep End

Alexandra Park has been cast in the film about two girls trapped in a public pool after a fiberglass cover seals them in.

Why Him

Griffin Gluck has been cast as Scotty Fleming, the son of Byran Cranston’s character in the film.
