Power Rangers

Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is in negotiations to helm Power Rangers, the reboot of the 1990s-spawned action franchise

Deepwater Horizon

Dylan O’Brien and Kurt Russell [are] in talks to join Peter Berg’s Deepwater Horizon opposite Mark Wahlberg…O’Brien will play Caleb Holloway, the youngest crew member, who survives but is devastated to have lost a majority of his crew.

Hunter Killer

Willem Dafoe is joining Gerard Butler, Billy Bob Thornton and Common for Relativity Studios’ submarine thriller Hunter Killer. The film concerns a renegade Russian military leader whose actions lead to the brink of war with the U.S. It’s then up to an elite U.S. Navy unit to stop him from causing World War III. Dafoe has been cast as Russian submarine Capt. Andropoyov.

Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, Green Lantern) directs from a script by Peter Craig

Central Intelligence

Danielle Nicolet has nabbed the female lead role opposite Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson in the Warner Bros-New Line buddy comedy Central Intelligence. The film centers on a mild-mannered accountant (Hart) who hears from a former classmate (Johnson) who was bullied in high school. The guy the accountant remembers as a loser now kills for the CIA and talks him into helping thwart a plot to sell military secrets. Rawson Marshall Thurber is directing from a script by Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen. Nicolet will play Maggie, the wife of Hart’s character who was his high school sweetheart.

Star Trek 3

Sofia Boutella has been set for a lead role in Star Trek 3, which Justin Lin is directing from a script by cast member Simon Pegg and Doug Jung

The Birth of A Nation

Aja Naomi King, Aunjanue Ellis, Colman Domingo, Dwight Henry, Roger Guenveur Smith and Gabrielle Union have joined the cast of The Birth Of A Nation, a biopic of slave-turned-revolutionary Nat Turner. Nate Parker wrote and directed the film and stars as Turner, who led a bloody rebellion in 1831 and went down in history as one of the most controversial American figures preceding the Civil War. Armie Hammer also stars.

The Haunted Mansion

Ryan Gosling is circling a lead role in The Haunted Mansion, Guillermo del Toro’s long-gestating film based on the Disneyland attraction.

Nine Lives

Jennifer Garner is set to star alongside Kevin Spacey, Christopher Walken and Robbie Amell in the Barry Sonnenfeld-directed EuropaCorp comedy Nine Lives.

Beauty and the Beast

Ian McKellen has joined the all-star lineup of Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast

McKellen will play Cogsworth, the Prince’s butler who is transformed into a clock. While the character doesn’t have any major musical numbers, he does make part of the Be Our Guest show-stopper.

Aquaman

James Wan is the frontrunner to direct Aquaman, Warner Bros.’ water-borne superhero movie

Wan has no offer at this stage but he is the studio’s choice and some preliminary talks have taken place.

Jason Momoa is already attached to star as the underwater breathing hero

Aquaman, the standalone, is being developed on two tracks, with Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad writing separate scripts for the project.

Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk

Vin Diesel…and Chris Tucker are in negotiations to join the growing cast of Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk

Newcomer Joe Alwyn is starring as the title character with Steve Martin, Kristen Stewart and Garrett Hedlund in various stages of negotiations to join the roll call.

Diesel will play a professional soldier while Tucker will play a movie producer who is intent on making a movie about the soldiers.

The Incredibles 2

Writer-director Brad Bird, who was also behind Pixar’s “Ratatouille,” told NPR that the sequel is “percolating.”

“I’m just staring to write it, so we’ll see what happens,” he said.

Independence Day 2

Director Roland Emmerich has announced that Brent Spiner (Star Trek: The Next Generation) has signed on to reprise his role as scientist Dr. Brackish Okun in Independence Day 2.

Creature From The Black Lagoon

Scarlett Johansson is Universal Pictures’ number one choice to star in the remake of the classic horror film Creature From The Black Lagoon. The news comes from the Tracking Board, who says she is currently being courted for the lead role.

The story for the original film followed a group of scientists who discover a menacing prehistoric creature while on an expedition in the amazon. The creature looks like a half-human, half-fish hybrid. Julia Adams played the female lead of the film.

Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Part 2

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely will be teaming back up with Joe and Anthony Russo as part of the creative team who will bring Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Part 2 to life…[Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely] will be writing the two Avengers films for the studio.

The Flash

directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller [are] wanted to direct the feature film version of The Flash…the filmmaking duo will also write the script for the film, and they are currently developing a story treatment for the DC Comics speedster superhero.

Grand Theft Auto

Daniel Radcliffe is in negotiations to star in Grand Theft Auto

Owen Harris…is helming the drama, which is being made by BBC Films.

Radcliffe will play Sam Houser, the British co-founder and president of Rockstar Games, the company behind GTA as well as games such as Max Payne and Red Dead. He is credited in popularizing GTA into one of the video game world’s biggest franchises but also amping up the violence quotient.

In the first decade of the 21st century, Houser and Rockstar Games came under repeated attacks from activist attorney Jack Thompson. Thompson was an unorthodox Florida attorney who was already attacking media companies for pushing rap and sex onto the airwaves when he turned his attention to what he saw as an obsession of glorifying violence in the video game industry. GTA was one of his favorite targets. He was disbarred in 2008 for inappropriate behavior.

The part of Thompson has not been cast yet.
