Film Casting: THE BIRTH OF A NATION, LOVING, Dwayne Johnson in ALPHA SQUAD SEVEN

Independence Day 2

DeObia Oparei…has booked a role in 20th Century Fox’s Independence Day 2. The sequel to the monster 1996 original that made $811 million worldwide is currently in production in New Mexico and has a June 24, 2016, release date.

Oparei will play Dikembe, the Oxford-educated son of an African warlord.

Loving

Jeff Nichols…has solidified his next film…Loving, a drama that Nichols wrote and will direct…with Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga starring as Mildred and Richard Loving, the couple behind the seminal 1967 civil rights case Loving vs. Virginia.

Richard and Mildred Loving, an interracial couple, were married in June 1958. As a result, authorities broke into their home, arrested them, and they were sentenced to a year in the state penitentiary. This sentence was suspended on the condition that they be exiled from the state of Virginia. Unbowed, the couple spent the next nine years fighting to get home, together, and the theme of the story is about marrying the one you want and finding the one you need.

A Dog’s Purpose

Lasse Hallstrom has committed to next direct A Dog’s Purpose, an Audrey Wells-scripted adaptation of the W. Bruce Cameron novel.

Cameron…wrote the first draft with Cathryn Michon. The book is about one dog’s quest to discover his purpose in life over the course of several lifetimes with multiple owners.

The Kaiser’s Last Kiss

Lily James (Cinderella) is set to star opposite Christopher Plummer in The Kaiser’s Last Kiss…director David Leveaux will make his feature debut with the spy thriller set in the early years of World War II, in the aftemath of the Nazi invasion of the Netherlands in 1940. Living there is former monarch Kaiser Wilhelm, living in exile since 1917. In an effort to thwart the Nazis, the Dutch resistance work covertly with Winston Churchill to insert an agent into the Kaiser’s household. A lethally dangerous love affair ignites between a German officer and a young Jewish Dutch woman (James) with devastating consequences as the Nazis race to identify and eliminate the agent behind the potentially disastrous defection of their former Emperor to England.

Alicia Vikander will star in the tech world drama-thriller The Circle.
