Same Kind Of Different As Me

Renee Zellweger has boarded Paramount’s faith-based drama Same Kind Of Different As Me, adapted from the 2006 nonfiction best-seller about the unlikely friendship between wealthy white art dealer Ron Hall and former sharecropper-turned-drifter Denver Moore. Introduced by Hall’s wife Deborah, the two men from opposite walks of life met at a homeless shelter where Hall was volunteering. Their self-published book Same Kind Of Different As Me: A Modern-Day Slave, An International Art Dealer, And The Unlikely Woman Who Bound Them Together was picked up by Thomas Nelson and went on to hit No. 8 on the New York Times bestseller list. Zellweger will play Deborah, whose higher calling to serve others brought Hall and Moore together before she succumbed to cancer in 2000.

Underdogs

Bella Thorne has joined the voice cast of Underdogs, the animated Weinstein Co. release…The Argentine-Spanish family flick from director Juan J. Campanella tracks a shy but talented foosball player who defends his town and his girl from a nefarious soccer player with the help of his foosball table figurines, who come magically to life…Ariana Grande, Nicholas Hoult, Matthew Morrison, Katie Holmes, John Leguizamo, Eugenio Derbez, Taran Killam, Bobby Moynihan, and Chazz Palminteri are currently recording English-language dialogue…Thorne will voice the younger version of love interest Laura, also played by Grande and Holmes.

The Nice Guys

Beau Knapp and Keith David have been cast as the adversaries in the Shane Black-helmed movie.

Knapp will play a gold chain-wearing motormouth hitman who also is accident prone; David plays his older partner.

Black and Anthony Bagarozzi wrote the screenplay for the Warner Bros. project

Keanu

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele are making their first movie together…The New Line film, Keanu, centers around a kidnapped cat

The 5th Wave

Ron Livingston has joined Sony’s YA adaptation The 5th Wave.

The film, based on the best-selling novel by Rick Yancey, follows the people of Earth who have endured four waves of increasingly deadly attacks from aliens. Cassie (Chloe Grace Moretz), one of a few survivors, is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. As she prepares for the inevitable and lethal 5th wave, Cassie meets a young man who may become her final hope.

Livingston will play Moretz’s character’s father, Oliver. He’s an important part of Cassie’s life, and tries his best to protect her during the deadly alien attacks.

Vengeance

Navot Papushado and Aharon Keshales have been set by Sony Pictures to write and direct a remake of the 2009 Hong Kong-French thriller Vengeance.
